Saki Zaimoku-cho Machiya

さき材木町 町家



Build in the early 1900's, more than 100 years old machiya. 

This machiya used to be a charcoal dealeing place. Best machiya for couples or close friends.

Located at the end of the alley way, surrounded by charcoal, Kitoh Sugi, Japanese Cedar. You can see the beautiful private garden from the living room


Ranma, Decorative Transom, located at the entrance is twin with Oku Zaimoku‐cho.
Soot‐colored bamboo, Susudake, located at the entrance of the private garden is also more than 100 years old.
In the living room, there is a floor heating that you can stay comfortably and feel the historical machiya too.

Neighborhood Information

Takase river was wide river to bring the wood, zaimoku, from the lower reaches.
This is the reason, today, this area called Zaimoku-cho. Walking distance to Gion and Miyagawa‐cho, where you may see the Maikos and/ or Geikos.
